 Sexual Abuse Allegations Rock Oprah's School for Girls |

Oprah Winfrey said she was "shaken to the core" by sexual abuse claims at her girls' school in South Africa. "This has been one of the most devastating, if not the most devastating experience of my life," Winfrey said in Johannesburg via a live satellite link from Chicago. Oprah was speaking at press conference after hearing that a dormitory matron was appearing in court after being accused of sexually assaulting several girls in the school over a 4 month period.The school is located at Henley-on-Klip, outside Johannesburg. It was founded by Winfrey to help young girls in South Africa find a better life. After hearing of the allegations, Winfrey sent 3 people to interview the girls, who encouraged five other young women to come forward. The matron, Virginia Tiny Mokgobo, a 27-year old woman, was immediately removed from her post after the accusations were aired. Her case has been delayed to December 13. Mokgobo faces charges including indecent assault and soliciting under-age girls to perform indecent acts. The case hits a sore spot for Winfrey, who was a victim of sexual abuse as a child. Additionally, she has been under fire for the methods used in the school to educate children. Some parents have taken their children from the school, never allowing them to return.
