Oscar Buzz for Denzel After American Gangster

If black people were giving Oscars, Denzel would have at least 7 of them by now.  He would surely, in a perfect world, have more trophies than some rappers have baby’s mamas.  OK, that was mean, and I digress.
 
I will only say that Denzel’s latest work “American Gangster”, not only proved to be a reminder of the fact that he is one of the greatest actors of our time, but also that he is one of the most bankable.
 
The film outdid Jerry Seinfeld’s “Bee Movie”, which was really more like a B-level film with A-list actors.  Seinfeld was never funny to me, as I wonder out loud how in the hell this man got so many loyal viewers.  I don’t want to attack this man’s success, but I am not sure if he really earned all those fancy cars in his driveway.  Ok, digressing again.
 
Denzel stars in his latest flick opposite Russell Crowe, another very good actor.  Crowe does a great job, but his New York accent sounds more like an Aussie trying to sound like a New Yorker.  Beyond that, his character does a wonderful job, along with excellent writers, of portraying the complexity of the film’s major players.  It shows that in the real world, there are no pure good guys or bad guys.  There are only those with power and those without it.
 
The film was clearly one of the best of the year, worthy of all the buzz that was created.  In fact, it should have gotten more buzz than the little bees trying out outperform it.   “American Gangster” will surely force Denzel to clear his trophy case.  The problem is that he only seems to get recognized when he is a bad guy.
