Not one to shy away from the label of role model, Chicago rapper Common has invested time and money into developing an educational program for young people.  "I always believed that if we started with the youth then we would be planting the seeds for our future to blossom," Common said in an interview. According to Soundslam News, The Common Ground Foundation, Inc. purposes to empower and develop urban youth via education. With a high school principal as his mother, education has proved to be a significant power in Common’s life.

In addition to education, Common Ground also hopes to aid in preventing the spread of AIDS/HIV among youth and young adults in both America and Africa.

Common recently released his seventh album, “Finding Forever,” which quickly climbed the Billboard 200 chart to No. 1 in its first week and made him a first-time chart-topper. On November 27, 2007 he is scheduled to release a collection  This Is Me Then: The Best of Common

Soundslam also reports that he will also be hitting the big screen in the near future after finishing up roles in "Wanted" with Denzel Washington, and "The Night Watchman" with Forrest Whitaker and Keanu Reeves.
