Observers
are realizing that there is a scarcity of black models, designers,
photographers, and executives in the fashion industry.
This was evident during last week’s A Washington-based attorney, Daniel Wolf, who specializes in civil and human rights, stated that the fashion industry is under the assumption that they are allowed to discriminate, and that it is legal. He disagrees, saying it is false. Wolf recommends that modeling agencies have the same percentage of black and white models. There has been a noticeable increase in the number of Asian models, designers, and executives in the industry while blacks lack in all aspects of fashion. Style.com posted 101 shows and presentations on their website. Of the 101 shows, 31 did not have black models, and most of those who did only used one or two. Iman, a notable fashion icon, stated that she felt strongly about organizing a union for models. She also noted that it’s the only major industry that does not have one. "Models don't have a union.
