Sprinter Tyson Gay is turning heads after his performance at The World Championships recently.  Gay returned with three gold medals, one in the 100 meters, another in the 200 meters and a final one in the 4x100 meter dash.  In modern sprinting, it is extremely difficult for a sprinter to win gold in both the 100 and 200 meter dashes at an event as challenging as the World Championships.

"It means a lot. The 4x100 meters really put the icing on the cake," he said. "This was the finest medal I got because I got to get the medal with my teammates."

Gay had a scary baton fumble during the relay that almost cost the US the race.  On top of that, the anchor leg runner Leroy Dixon, had to hold off Asafa Powell, the World Record Holder.  The US emerged victorious.

"I was feeling tired but my teammates told me, 'Let's go out and do it one more time.' That really got my adrenalin pumping," Gay told the Associated Press. 

Gay’s time of 19.76 in the 200 meters broke the World Championships Record set by Michael Johnson in 1996.  This is the fastest a human being has run in this event for years.  Johnson’s world record of 19.29 in the 200 meters is considered untouchable.
