Recently, the cities of Harrisburg and Philadelphia, Pennsylvania,

all of the victims were young African Americans, and the killers
were also young African Americans. Unfortunately, this is not
shocking news to most people living in Harrisburg, the United

want to be right, do all things perfectly and of course be the first
one to do anything of importance. We take pride in having knowledge
and using that know-how to boss people around. Right? But somewhere
in all the know-it-all bravado, there lies a bit of insecurity. Why
do I need a book to tell me how to dress, how to win any argument,

Pure and lasting religion in the sight of God our Father means that
we must care for orphans and widows in their troubles, and refuse to

Our children deserve the best.
Unfortunately, too often we associate the best with material
accumulations rather than with the opportunity to mature in safe,
loving, violence and substance free two parent home. Statistically,
African American children are less likely than Asians, Hispanics,
and Whites to grow up in the home of their biological parents.

Dr. Peniel Joseph, Your Black Scholar: From Black Power to Barack Obama -
Barack Obama’s meteoric rise from charismatic senator to national
phenomenon to presidential contender reveals the complex evolution of black
politics since the civil rights and Black Power era. Obama’s candidacy is
particularly noteworthy during this primary season and election year, which
comes on the fortieth anniversary of 1968, a year when effort to transform
American democracy ran headlong into a violent defense of white supremacy. Born
in 1961, the same year Freedom Riders faced prison to desegregate interstate
travel across the nation, Obama remains aloof to the culture wars—whether based
in racial, gender or ethnic solidarity—that remain a cornerstone of the legacy
of the 1960s. “I think America is still caught in a little bit of a time warp,”
Obama confessed to Newsweek last summer. “The narrative of black politics is
still shaped by the ’60s and black power.” Indeed.

From the beginning of his presidential campaign, which unofficially
began with the release of his second book The Audacity of Hope, Senator Barack
Obama has been positioned as an underdog against the Clinton machine. Now, with
polls showing him in a virtual dead heat with Sen. Hillary Clinton, the media
has constructed his early success as a David-over-Goliath narrative that proves
that ordinary people have the power to slay the beast that is Washington through
a radical politics of hope. Unfortunately, the Obama campaign has perverted the
concept of hope by wedding it to a dangerous politics of compromise, concession
and cunning. Click to Read.

Castleberry, Your Black Global News: Lack of Electricity Threatens to Keep
Africa in Poverty - Once the sun goes down in Africa, about 75% of the
population lives in a world of darkness. Day-to-day living conditions suffer
from no electricity. Time-management is crucial because people are unable to
cook or clean and simply forced to sleep. Electricity is one of the top most
expensive necessities in Africa, and many residents are denied this basic
staple. Typically, public facilities, such as hospitals and schools can only
afford electricity for fifteen days out of the month. According to the World
Bank News Broadcast, Sub-Saharan Africans use seven times less electric power
than people in high income countries. Up to 250 million Africans have no easy
access to electricity and are left to use kerosene lamps or burning fire.

As the
primaries and debates become more and more intense I realize how I'm so out of
touch with politics. I've never followed politics and honestly I don’t really

I'm listening to the conversations amongst my peers and it seems that most of
them are voting for Obama. He "Appears" to be the best candidate for some
people. I wonder how much of that interest in Obama is "biased". Some of my
African American counterparts will lie to me and say "Oh I like his stance on
blah blah" but in reality you just want him to win because he's Black.

Black Life: My Braids, By Donisha Adams -
Hair texture and hairstyles
have been complex issues in the African American community. Some of us prefer to
straighten our hair, while others prefer to “go natural.” No one is right or
wrong, but the causes for these modifications may be deeply rooted in American
society and socialization theories. American society is driven by white
standards of beauty—that blond hair, blue eyed and model thin look. Media
perpetuates this ideology in movies, television shows and books. They teach us
that there is only one way to look, well if you want to be successful anyway.

horrified at the thought of possibly having contracted a deadly disease due to

Listening to the doom and gloom and the occasional happy story seems to
energize me for the day ahead. The last few mornings I have been
surprised by Senator Clinton's statements about herself and her
opponents. I live in Central NY, we are used to her haughty, uppity
disposition, and her "I will run my campaign the way I see fit"
attitude, all from the
steely calculating ice queen who cries for votes.

Michelle Yeager, Your Black Life: Happy New Year 2008:
The
year 2007 started out horribly for me. My desktop computer crashed. I attended
the funeral of my grandmother in Fayetteville, NC. I
then traveled back to Louisville to
attend a second funeral for her (family drama). While watching the news I saw
that there was a car accident where a man running from the cops crashed into a
car ejecting seven kids. Two of these kids were my former students. I went to
the hospital to see one of their precious souls on life support. Click

The winning of the Iowa Caucuses by Barack Obama is an historic
event. It shows that America has a hunger for change and can come together to

simply means you have to work a little harder to get those fires going
again. Click to Read More.

Richardson: The Audacity of Hope - My Excitement Over Obama -
Thursday night I visited my oldest daughter; she gave me the political junkie
permission to turn the television to a cable news channel. As I read the words
"Obama wins the Iowa Democratic Caucus" on the television screen, I blinked my
eyes and the scene changed to a political analyst. As one of the MSNBC analysts
spoke the words "Obama has won the Iowa Democratic Caucus" I screamed and jumped
up and down. Click to Read More.

I love to
workout!!! Most of my friends call me a gym rat because you can find me in the
gym several days a week. They recently opened a new gym here and it the best
thing ever invented. It was love at first sight! This gym has a
cardio studio,
swimming pool, aerobics classes,
pilates machines,
full basketball court and a track. Did you hear me? This gym has an indoor
track. There are no other gyms in my city with one.
