Dr. Boyce: Why We Need to Listen to Cornel and Tavis on Poverty

Last week, there were rumblings about Tavis Smiley’s PBS program, “Reawakening America.”  The program was designed to encourage politicians and citizens to deal with poverty in America, which continues to be ignored by the powers-that-be in Washington. In fact, in last year’s State of the Union Address, President Obama was the first Democratic president since Harry S. Truman not to mention poverty for the entire address.

As expected, Cornel West joined Tavis as one of the panelists for the event.  West is a long-time political partner in crime with Smiley, and in spite of any criticism they might have received for their challenges to the Obama Administration, you must give them both credit for being lone voices in the woods on the important issue of poverty.  With 40 percent of Black children living below the poverty line, African Americans cannot allow the political elite of Washington to fool us into forgetting about those who are suffering the most.

It isn’t Obama fault that 20% plus of Blacks are unemployed….It isn’t Obama fault that the disparity of Blacks income versus Whites income are as wide as it is..It isn’t Obama fault that there is so many Blacks living in poverty ….All of these dilemmas of Blacks have been going on since the Black man was freed from slavery…If they want to do something constructive go and rant against the following:Rep. Cantor, Sen McDonnel, Rep Boehner, the tea baggers, the rest of those hateful repukes and all the robber baron companies who have discriminated against Blacks since they were freed from slavery…..Tavis and Cornel when we march down South during the Civil Right Era it was against the Jim Crow whites….Dr. Martin L Kings was a great leader can you two replace him….Awake boys you are ranting on the wrong person……

Thank you Olin…. President Obama is a man that has a job. He is not the King of black people. He is tying to help all people. If he did not force Congress to pass part of his job bill (like unemployment) more people would be poor. Im black and poor…however, I have a two degrees in IT…and a MBA…and yes…I am poor. I cannot find a job anywhere….I would never blame this on the President. I blame the money hungry Corporate world for giving up on American people and moving overseas to pay people cheaper wages……Not President Obama…

We have been in poverty all of our life….Why should we be told again that we are in poverty when we already know that….Go tell this to the robber baron companies who have discriminated and laid off all us Blacks….Who have paid up wages way below that of the Whites…The root cause is discrimination….

There should be many reasons why we should do more than just listen
to these two men who obviously love their people enough to stick their
necks out! They are too good to be politicians and too righteous and
truthful to be picked up by the elite-owned media.

The mere fact that this main-stream Anglo-dominant society ignores
these gentlemen should give the enlightened among us a clue as to how
important they are to us all!
You will all know who’s good and who’s bad simply by the amount of
airtime the elite-owned media is willing to use to advertise, exclude or
demonize them. In most cases you will never hear the names, or see the
faces of the good intellectual activists.

Anglo power come from money…..Where does he get some of that money????? Blacks…We can organized ourselves and keep all of our money in the Black community….Why can’t we be another Black Wall Street of Tulsa…The most powerful impact on the Civil Right Era came about when the Blacks boycotted the buses in Montgomery, AL…This act cause the White folks to integrate the buses because they were losing a lot of money…….Taking money out of their pockets is the most effective way to bring them to their knees….I’m presently boycotting Pepsi because of their recent discriminatory practices in hiring  Blacks…And I’m calling on all Blacks to do the same…..If I’m not good enough to work for your companies then your products or services aren’t good enough for me to buy…

The way to whipped some of these hateful dingbat whites is all about economic………Money Money Money that’s what it all about….

boyce–in your machination to get black people to support west (because you detest tavis) in the name of poverty.

    my question:

when they finish pimping the black community to sell more books and increase their visibility on tv to get high priced speaking engagements…

how much is your CUT for playing your role in this sinister plot to exploit our people for profit in the name of poverty.

note:  (saw the pimps on morning joe last week already promoting their poverty book)  like true pimps…i assure you not one penny of the proceeds will go to the poor.

Smiley and West are 100% on the right track! A President does nothing without a mandate and these gentlemen are making sure that their mandate is heard and spread throughout the people so we can with one resounding voice ask “What about the poor”. The rich man did not go to heaven because he was rich, it was because he ignorned the poor man.

Obama is no good to us or America if he wont do his job… I like Obama as a person. He has alot of charisma and SEEMS to be good person. But he isnt doing his job. Im tired of all the excuses for this guy.. You dont get to come out of no where and have people instantly put you on a level next to MLK when you havent done anything to deserve that level of respect from people. We black folks are protecting him at our own expense… lol… What kind of sense does that make? Black people love this guy more than they love themselves? I dont believe that..

Ironic to hear people who support Obama talk about Tavis and Cornel and the guys who are ‘pimpin’ somebody…

Tavis and Cornel arent the ones ‘pimpin’ here.

Question? How much of your job can you do if you had to run everything through a party that does not like you…..

Tavis Smiley and Cornel West are attacking President Obama for personal reasons.  President Obama is not the president of the NAACP or any other black organization he is the President of the United States. Smiley and West didn’t attack George W. Bush when he was president. Why? Because he’s white. They are just two crabs in a bucket trying to bring our president down and very few blacks will waste their time listening to them.

Boyce, it’s nothing wrong with coming out and saying you’re a Republican.
