“I almost had an asthma attack” said Alex Rodriguez, an unemployed doorman who received a 44 million dollar bill in the mail after
receiving outpatient care for pneumonia.
Apparently, the extraordinarily high bill was the result of a mistake made by the billing firm PHY Services. The firm has since been overwhelmed with calls from other customers complaining of incorrect bills.
PHY says the mistake was the result of the invoice number being mistakenly placed in the “amount due” field. The amount Rodriguez actually owed was around $300.
