Dr. Boyce: MSNBC Suspends Pat Buchanan – Now They Need to Fire Him

by Dr. Boyce Watkins, Your Black World.

MSNBC has suspended conservative commentator Pat Buchanan, according to Phil Griffin, the network’s president.  The suspension resulted  from words in Buchanan’s book, “Suicide of a Superpower.”   Buchanan has stated that President Obama arrived to the White House as a result of Affirmative Action and that the country “has been built, basically, by white folks.”

Griffin seems concerned about two of the chapters in Buchanan’s book, one of them titled “The End of White America,” and the other called “The Death of Christian America.”

The MSNBC president is quoted in the AP as saying “Because of the content of the book, I didn’t think it should be part of the national dialogue, much less part of the dialogue on MSNBC.”

I’ve only met MSNBC President Phil Griffin one time.  He and I were on a panel together at the National Action Network Conference, hosted by Rev. Al Sharpton.  Griffin seems like a nice enough guy, and we haven’t spoken since.  But if we were to have another conversation, I’d ask him one simple question:  How in the holy hayell is a man like Pat Buchanan still on your payroll?

I remember Columbia University Professor Marc Lamont Hill being fired from Fox News after one very quick, dirty and misleading smear campaign.  I recall Rev. Jesse Jackson being fired from CNN because he had a child out of wedlock.  Yet, Pat Buchanan has spent the last 40 years speaking and acting in ways that would put David Duke to shame, and the network continues to treat him like he’s just a regular guy.

In spite of how hard Buchanan has worked to prove to MSNBC that he is a bigot in analyst’s clothing, they have continued to reward him with a high salary, limousine rides and a national platform for his racially inflammatory remarks.  This is another example of the same white privilege that allows Don Imus to continue making good money after referring to a group of black women as “nappy headed hoes.”

Not only does MSNBC need to fire Pat Buchanan, they need to ask themselves why they didn’t get rid of him long ago.  Is it because so many millions of Americans think the way he does?  Is it because they simply don’t care what he says?  Or perhaps it’s the obvious – that disrespecting black people is at the bottom of the political priority list for most major organizations.

The saddest truth in the world for black people is that even our friends have a hard time respecting us.  We end up stuck between Republicans who want to kill us and starve our kids, and Democrats who care about almost none of the issues that matter to our community. Over the last two months, when MSNBC celebrated reduced unemployment as a victory for the Obama Administration, they failed to make note of the fact that black unemployment has gone up over the same period of time.  Our agenda only matters when it happens to be their agenda; but I argue that it’s time to speak clearly about the black agenda.

While I am not entitled to tell anyone how to react to Pat Buchanan, MSNBC or anyone else, I encourage people of color to honestly ask themselves whether our friends or our enemies have very much respect for our community.  If this were the court of law and we were reviewing the evidence, I argue that the verdict would be abundantly clear.   Firing Pat Buchanan is the least this network can do and the firing should be followed by an apology to us all.  Buchanan brings few redeeming qualities to MSNBC, and President Griffin knows this.

I noticed that Pat had a problem during his first interview with Al Sharpton.  He does not belong.  Out he goes and in comes the smartest person there is, Melissa Harris Perry.  I am not surprised they gave her a spot of her own.  We all can learn a lot from her and she speaks with fairness.

    • John

Melissa Harris Perry is really not that smart.  She works for Obama, and that’s why she got the job.

      • http://www.facebook.com/people/Spencer-Leon-Miller/100000043702090 Spencer Leon Miller

Are you crazy? She is extremely smart! And how do you know why she got the job? Were you there when they hired her?

      • Vern

Oh please move along the idiot pool is missing you!!!

  • Anonymous

I do not want ol’ Pat gone. Me thinks he’s good for Black people. We need this kinda person around lest we forget where we are and what we are thought of. Black people need to know every second of the day how much we are hated and disrespected on this planet. That may keep us from fighting one another or even going on with nonsense that make no sense.

Please leave Pat on tv so that Black children don’t forget what to look for and who to look at. White people have now learned how to refine their racism until it doesn’t look like racism anymore. We have been lulled to sleep until the cops kills one of us in the street or some politician’s email is “leaked” to media. Yeah the president is Black (fall guy), but he is also the most threatened, disrespected, laughed at, left to the side president in history. He has been neutralized and is not even seeing Black people and he bet not.

MSNBC, we needs Pat back on tv so that our children don’t forget what to look for and who to look at. We ol’ Pat on tv so that I don’t forget who my sworn enemy is.

    • Wallaceharris62

fool ! By the way you speak I don”t think you’re skin is black at all.  you disrepect all black people not only by what you said but also by how you said it.

      • Anonymous

And you call me a fool? I think you need to back up from the computer, it does you no good.

    • blkgalusa

We do not need Pat back on MSNBC.  There is so much racism about there right now for our children to see and feel that honestly, one white racist gone ain’t gonna really change anything.  But at least that’s one down and millions more to go.  I hope he gets fired permanently…It is always a good idea to let people like Pat feel that pockets a little less full.  Perhaps then, they may think twice about opening his fat month.

      • Rudeboi

I agree with but as Black people we tend to sit our children in front of the tv with little or no supervision. That being said, tv can be so confusing in its racism that it’s just automatically internalized. With old’ Pat there it will be no question who to look out for.

MSNBC needs the race hustler, liar Al Sharpton to prove their diversity cred. They don’t need Pat Buchanan because all their talk about tolerance is pure bullshit.

    • Anonymous

Agreed. Tolerance is for headaches and crying babies, not a people. Don’t tolerate me just leave me the hell alone.

    • Vern

You are so full of hate against Al Sharpton which is misplaced.  Calm the hell down!!!

    • JanetL

Rev Al has fought for the Black community for over 50 years, where were you?  Sitting on the side lines doing Monday Morning Quarter Backing is what people do who have no intention of making one contribution to any community

Jess and Rev Al have given up many night sleep, traveled many miles, walked many miles, stood up for Justice in the community while others sit on the sidelines and complain but never lift one finger to help.

The many live that these two have helped over the years we cannot count.  They were there, they showed up, where were you.

Sitting at home on the cough and bashing those working to help others just doesn’t cut it.

Thank you Rev Al & Jessie for all you do for the community.

Unless and until you get off the cough and contribute not only money but your self remain silent!

Pat is an racists and MSNBC should’ve sent him packing a long time ago. People of color do not care for Pat whom has made it clear that he is pro-white and part of the Grand Dragon (KKK).

. News Flash— Pat we don’t care for you and yours either and in the worst way. So GTFOH and STFU  you, fat, wrinkle, ugly MoFo.

You don’t think Black people need to see this person everyday? We need this kinda thing on tv and a bunch Black running around with white friends like this is somewhere over the rainbow. We need a reminder of what our enemy looks like.

      • Teabaggers are racist

“We need a reminder of what our enemy looks like. ”

All black people have to do is read the idiot comments by you and your white racist teabag buddies to be reminded of what the enemy looks like. Who the F do u think you’re kidding.

What ever happened to free speech?

    • falcon

Excuse me! ask yourself that question, he’s free to say what he wants and Im free to protest what he says, that is free speech. Freedom of speech means that the government wont intervene and tell you what you can and can not say. Freedom of speech does not mean you should be silent when being insulted! SOME PEOPLE! You must be a red neck.

    • You Big Dummy

nothing if you’re talking about white people…

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Spencer-Leon-Miller/100000043702090 Spencer Leon Miller

There is a stark difference between free speech and hate speech, free speech is within the law and hate speech is outside the law.  Communication that disparages, denigrates, and demeans a person or group of people is not classified as you people seem to think to be a freedom of expression. Free speech does not mean that you can just say whatever comes to your racist head, you need to stop listening to Rush Limbaugh because both he and the devil is a liar.

    Dr. Boyce:

You are so right!  It has been a mystery to me why Pat Buchanan was allowed to be on MSNBC, unless we have developed an opinion about the station that is undeserved.  We are so glad to have a station that speaks some of the truth, we hace overlooked their “backhand”:  sometimes Chris Matthews straddles and “speaks” in a voice that encourages controversy concernining important issues that he should have a definite opinion on.  He makes me sad at times, in addition, why is it that a station that portrays fainness, brings on such a program as “lockup” every night and all weekend?  I have written to them about this.  It is so hypocritical.  We` all know that the majority of people in prisons in the US are “black”.   What is their purpose?     It could not be to uplift the “human spirit with positive unbiased information”.  I thought this was the goal of MSNBC but undoubtly not since the same owner (GE) owns both CNBC  and MSNBC, unless Comcast bought both stations.  Then that might explain his firing but they should end this negative programing also.

  • Jamericabiz

Pat Bucanon, is a racist have always been a racist. For MSNBC to have him as a panalist is an embarrasment to MSNBC, or maybe they agree with what he is saying.
Black people need to remember that America, is have been and always been a racist nation. Because they elect Obama, president does not mean the Lepard changes it stripe.
If we work hard with our African brothers sisters to develop that continent we may begin to get the respect we deserve. Anything short of that will not work for us. We need to stop hating each others and in that effort stop marrying people of other races who only marry well to do blacks for financial purpose. Because when they get devorced they leave the marriage very wealthy and will find some white trash to marry them for the money they get from the black athletes and others who hate themselves for being black.
The Kobe , Charles, OJ, Tiger Woods and the many who choose white trophy wives, guess to improve their image I guess.
I am not a racist but I have seen racist at its best in America. The problem we have is we believe in the word forgiveness for white people and not for ourselves. And we worship their white jesus rather rather that question who jesus really were, Jesus did not die for us, he was murdered by the white men because it suit their purpose. Because black people refused to question what their  bible tells us,  we ebrrace it with all our being. We never asked what was the purpose of the 40 men and a few women mentioned in the bible. we follow those dead beat all the way to hell if there is such a place.
We have been pre-condition to believe in the bible, and follow every word in it from birth to death everthing that human being who live under the Judiah Christian system work conchiously and unconchiously to prove what the bible say is correct. We never really question many of the evil  things that they said have been done to other human being in the bible. War and murder is justify in the bible, slavery was justefied in the bible. Every manner of evil that we see have been justified in the bible. We just do them because the bible said so.If man destroy the world with a nuclear bomb if any of us  survive it they will say that it had to happen because the bible said that the world would be destroyed by fire. So we make the nuclear bomb to kill each other because the bible said it would happen. Not thinking that we subconschiously spend out knowledge in persing these evil deeds because the bible said it would happen. That is what I am talking about when I said conschious, and subconschiously. I cannot tell black people who to worship, but I am one individual who will never follow the bible down a path of destruction because some white man who wrote the bible tell me so. It is a scare tactic to control your mind and inner thought. What God who said he made man in his own image, then turn around and say’s that one group is my chosen people. What iare the rest of us CHOP LIVER?.

    • Val

You trying to convince yourself, you are not a racist, nice try. Honestly, i don’t use the word Racism because there are people in every Race that fits that adjective. Even in African countries, where there are no whites, it exists, the difference is this, it’s called Tribalism. Why is the Race Card only applicable to whites and whites only? Let me cite some few examples for you, Kanye West against Taylor Swift, Gene Robinson of the Washington post statement about Chris Christie’s weight and his recent statement about Rick Santorum and finally Questlove intro (music) of Michelle Bachmann at Jimmy Fallon’s show, Questlove even tweeted what he did. Name just one of these three Blacks that was called Racist, NADA, i mean none. This is why the Race Card has become meaningless. It reminds me of the saying ” Pot calling Kettle black”. On the Christianity issue, i have one advice for you and that is, ALWAYS AVOID TALKING ABOUT WHAT YOU DONT KNOW, MOSTLY, WHEN IT IS ABOUT SPIRITUAL ISSUES!!!

  • Charsjcca

There never is but one issue-respect. When Pope Benedict XVI came to America in 2008 he spoke of the failed history of American Catholics in that the First Americans and the sons and daughters of American slavery had been left our of the great wealth. It had no impact on American Catholics-business continued as usual. Business will continue as usual at MSNBC. Restrictive covenants and red lining has never mattered.

  • H. I. Brown

Dr. Boyce, how long have you been Black, not including today? From the writing of the Constitution to the Civil Rights legislation in the 60s, nothing much has changed. If America wanted equality then there would not be White racial and military groups. Eugenics and Social Darwinism and Capitalism is the American way. Lincoln did not free the slaves, God freed the slaves through their prayers. My proof is that no written legislation by man has made Blacks equal in America. I am proud that you and so many of my people have college education, but if education is all that was needed for Blacks to be equal, then it would have happened years ago. Academia, which you are now a part of, trust themselves with little or no results. Belivers trust God FIRST, then everything else falls in place for us. I am attending Y.S.U. in Ohio in my fourth year, but God and common sense which He gives me is what carries me through. The more education and rise in the socieoeconomic status Blacks get, the further we get away from worshiping God and trusting Him. We now trust Wall Street, the banks, our bank accounts, our social status, our privileged standings and we worship each other and become our own “little” gods. If one does not put God first, everything else will eventually fall apart. Racism and prejudice will NEVER be solved by man for every man feels he is right in his own eyes.

    • R Gilmore

I truly appreciate every single word that you said “H.I. Brown”….Racism will never be solved on this planet…..You have people that claim to be of various RELIGIONS, but turn around and show how truly EVIL they are (RACISTS)….RACISTS ARE THE DEVILS CHILDREN. JUST LOOK @ THE HATRED, WHICH STEMS FROM FEAR, INSECURITY, AND JEALOUSY.  Until people put GOD FIRST, their lives will eventually crumble.  These so called “Evangelicals” are nothing but RACISTS hiding behind the bible and each other. The high majority of them are Bible toting hypicrits, ready to do harm to anyone with the slightest bit of color in their skin.  GOD is going to change it all.  Great comments H.I. Browm

  • Kurtadelberg

I am in agreement.. the phony intellectual-elitist posturing of Buchanan and his ilk is obvious and pathetic. What I find more troublesome, however, is Mr.Griffin’s assumption that he holds the authority to decide what should be a part of the “national discussion”.

Black people need to keep learning, studying and educating our own of the past of slavery and what they did to our forefathers in their brutal fashion to conform to their will. Their Jim Crow laws and their terrorist the KKK that still exist today under splendered group names and the laws put in place to keep us subject to them. Now that laws have changed the justice has not and the racist bigots children that have grown up continue to blame black people for their country’s failings. Like they take credit for America a modern day Sodom and Gomorrah and the audacity to claim Christianity and God Bless America, please tell Buchanan, Limbaugh, Hannity, O’really and that skinny white girl lies will not continue to be hidden or whitewashed.

Barack Obama is a beneficiary of Affirmative Action and America was founded and built by white folks. The truth is very dangerous to the status quo.

    • Guest

“…Barack Obama is a beneficiary of Affirmative Action” so you’re suggesting that this Harvard Law Review Grad got in as part of a quota?  Idiot comment number one.
“…built by white folks.”  Really?  White folks “built” stables and a racist, murderous system to EXPLOIT people of color to clear and build on land that they stole.  Built?  They founded this racist, murderous system but built?  No, EXPLOITED people of color for free labor.  Idiot comment number two.

      Read a book Warren.

When Pat Buchanan first appeared on MSNBC I thought it to be strange. Buchanan has always been a staunch racist. Once when speaking to Rev. Sharpton he referred to President Obama as “your boy” and Rev. Sharpton responded, “My what?” And Sharpton ended the conversation by saying, “take care of your Tea Party boys.” this is the point when MSNBC should have seen the red flag that was raised by this well-known racist

    • Guest

Oh, they did see the flag…the issue is that “free speech” applies only as long as it is supported by the demographic that watches MSNBC.  That is why Jesse was fired from CNN.  Their demographic doesn’t care for his perspective…easy to cancel his free speech by firing him.

Free speech only exists if they can get viewers to listen.  No matter what racist, improper, inappropriate free speech is spewed.  I don’t need to see the enemy…AGAIN.  I know what he looks like.  Get rid of him, let him die in his hatred.  Just like the Tea Party eventually will after the President wins the election.

  • WTH

Isn’t everyone entitled to their own opinion?  I was listening to a news radio host (Dana Loesch) and I didn’t agree with her but that doesn’t mean she should be fired.

    • JanetL

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion but not their own facts.  Buchanan always lies about the facts and he also just lets you know he hates blacks.

Buchanan wrote a column a while on something named the “human’  something lblog talking about how Blacks should be grateful that they are slaves and should get down on their knees and be thankful for it.

MSNBC had to know about this website and his daily or weekly news letters/editorials.

If everyone went on tv spewing hate toward every ethnic group just how do you think this world would be.  Unless everyone can do it no one can do it. And these people play Pretend Christian and that kind of hate is not in Scripture, they are entirely misguided.

  • WTH

If Buchanan were not allowed to speak what he thinks, then we would not be having this conversation… the problem is that he said it “out loud.”  I’m sure there are plenty of people in Washington that have certain opinions that people would not agree with… we just don’t know what they are because they have not said.

  • Smokeytownson

TVNewsLies is hereby FIRED by Smokey Townson.  No longer will I allow you to trash truthful people such as Pat Buchanan.  You are gone from my email bocx permanantly.
You guys are commies, marxist, and socialist.  BTW I never heard any lies from David Duke!

  • Richard

Its no secret that Pat Buchanan has lived beyond his usefulness (metaphorically speaking), thats not the issue with me. The issue is and has been slightly mentioned in Dr. Watkins article above is the “caught between a rock and hard place” that black folks find themselves in politically. I have found out through forty years being a part of “both” political parties (democrats and republicans) that neither party gives a rats *@#ss about the interest of the black community in critical-mass. On one hand the republican party does not hide their distain towards the black community and its plight, and on the other hand, the democrats have this arrogant notion that “poor black folk can’t make it without our counsel and direction” and taking full advantage of the “all the eggs in one basket” behavior of the black vote. I would hope that one day before I die the black community and its so-called leadership will “wake up” and realize that bargaining away our ‘collective-interest for the benefit of one or two black individual’s interest is a price too high to pay. Its great that the United States was able to elect a black president (half-white), but it has little benefit to claim “we have overcome” without some accountability to the hardships and difficulties that is affecting the black community as a whole. We need to teach ourselves and our children that the only real power that we have is our “spending power” (almost one trilion dollars annually now). Re-direct that spending power towards venues that will benefit our community to create jobs, influence, “real” political power and economic viability. One of the great tools that the United States has mastered in times pass to hold onto power was its ability to “learn from its mistakes” and “purchase” talent , black folks need to learn this model for itself. Define what our needs are, measure what it will take to accomplish our desired goals, gather the resources to accomplish them, implement the strategy and “stay on course” and complete the task. Distractions like Pat Buchanan will come and go, we must not let our interest become disrupted by ignorance, stupidity, bigotry or racism. Let us recognize it for what it is and say what that maid said in the movie “The Help”, eat my Sh*@#T !

Buchanan is “representative” of his “ilk” in that he is of a Generation that feels that They: {White Males from “Privileged” backgrounds shouldn’t HAVE TO COMPETE with “People of Color” and still RUN THIS COUNTRY…Let ALONE have a BLACK MAN BE IN CHARGE”…Perish the thought…..!!!  And it bothers them to NO END that this “JIG” is in the WHITE HOUSE.  but I got news for ya “Patrick”…HE’S GONNA DO A SECOND TERM, I know you REALLY don’t like it…..but after 200 plus years, give a brotha a Chance….oh that’s right; we’re AL “Affirmative Action” babies!

  • JanetL

MSNBC should have fired Pat Buchanan long time ago they knew exactly who he was.  Pat wrote Blogs one was the Human something website where he trashes Blacks often.  Buchanan wrote editorials in local papers about blacks over the years, how can you have an employee and not know.

If he come back it’s time to stop watching even though many are looking forward to Milisa Lacewell, if they bring back Pat, we won’t watch the channel period.  We must let friends, neghbors, church folk, family know that if they bring him back just turn off the channel.  A message must be sent that the community will be respected or we will just watch another channel.

  • E. Jacqueline Irons

Pat Buchanan works for MSNBC?!  I never knew that.  I never see him on the station.  I watch MSNBC quite frequently and never saw the man.  I see him on Fox news on Sundays sometimes.  Anyway, I believe Phil Griffin is keeping Pat Buchanan on just to show what a bigot he is and always was.  I’m glad I never saw him on any of the shows on MSNBC.  Thank goodness!
