Maya Angelou has some nasty words for the rapper Common. Angelou told the New York Post that she’s horrified that Common put her on a song that has the N-word all over it. In the song “The Dreamer,” Common uses an Angelou poem that she wrote and recited at his request.
The poem Angelou recites reminds people of color to pursue their dreams and includes lines like this: “From Africa they lay in the bilge of slave ships / And stood half naked on auction blocks /. . . and still they dreamed.”
