If Arlene Ackerman is legally entitled to receive unemployment compensation as per the laws of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania then she has every right to file for the benefits. It doesn’t matter how large or small her buyout was from the school district. Folks should find something else to gnaw their concerns on.

Regardless of what might be legal, or what others might do, did we gather in Gary, IN, in 1972 at the Black Political Convention to facilitate this outcome. Speak to me!!!

I worked for Arlene Ackerman… I think she got caught in the viscous cycle of Philadelphia politics and she played her hand very poorly… The one she did do right was set herself up for a win-win situation if she ever got terminated.. And she did…

I think filing for unemployment while it is her right, it is probably sending a message to all the people who she worked with in the city (mayor nutter) that she won in the end…

The City and children lose (as they did with her predessesor Paul Vallas)..this is unfortunately the true face of politics in big cities

So what if she filed for unemployment benefits? She did the right thing in filing for them. It’s not her fault if her claim is approved. If she’s not entitled to the benefits, then her claim will be denied. Simple as that,.

No matter they color, wealthy people will always reach for more money.  For them there is never enough.

Let the people speak.  Then replay the tape. Arlene Ackerman was in DC, then San Francisco and on the Philadelphia. Is there anyone out there who want to follow that path.
After reviewing her recent career I had some new thoughts about her journey. Knowing how fickle Board of Education’s can be I suspect she included the protections in her latest contract based on former experience. It could be that a thirs termination from this environment might be the correct measure. From what I read this professional has not bee charged with lining her pockets. Her last contract in San Francisco was $250,000, not out of line with large systems. So, coming to Philadelphia the Board had to bid on a top level administrator. This does represent an interesting case to study. Just how does Board of Education go about its business. I do understand that there is an organization of Superintendents that are into executive placement, meaning that one of their members will get all vacancies. So there is a history of executives traveling from one location to another on something like 5-year cycles. Maybe they have a 5-year shelf life. May hard decisions and make enemies.

By the way, have you ever participated in an executive search? It is a trip.

I live outside of Philly and the Philly news media stirred up a lot of this nonsense about how much she was paid. But said little to nothing when previous administrators received buyouts. A lot of this is politics as usual in Philly. They knew what her salary was when they hired her. What’s the big deal?? As far as her getting unemployment, she worked, paid into the system, she’s entitle to it. IMO if she can get food stamps she should apply for that too!
