I think this was a very important conversation because what we do with our money today and in the future will determine how we progress as a people. More discussions like this are needed and I urge anyone who views this to make a comment and continue the discussion.

I’m find that most if not all the people I know who do drink it is placing us further and further down. These most dont even have permanent jobs.   Our people have fallen into a trap meaning we just do what feels good to them.  In the process comes the degradation of our culture…I recently paid some attention the music that is played and popular within our community.  Most of the top songs are about drinking and partying and again just feeling good. Like Doc said an addiction to consumption….this was is and a very powerful message…..where do we go? Generational decline must stop now…..well said Dr. Boyce

This situation is not exclusive to black men at all.  Men of all colors try to be big shots in the clubs.  A white friend of mine back in the 90s used to call them the $30K Millionaires.  He was speaking of white guys who would try to buy popularity and respect by dropping money conspicuously in a club.  Buying top shelf liquor or buying a round for the people surrounding them even though it meant they wouldn’t have money for their electric bill on Monday.  Too many young men fail to make the connection between working and building wealth.  They are fixated on partying to the point they become unemployable or worse.  Some turn to crime to pay for their expensive Big Shot habit.  Imagine that.  Imagine some guy robbing a woman of her jewelry so he can afford to pose as a big shot in a club.  What kind of insanity have we allowed ourselves to manifest?

Gee, I wish you hadn’t ask the question, but instead did a study which resulted in some real answers.  I know men do this, but to what extend does it affect black men, overall.  That conversation (shown) doesn’t quite do it for me.

Hey, white guys do it too, even with black ladies.  I spent over $4k on my lady friends grill, then when my teeth started breaking, couldn’t afford it, she dumped me.
