Survey: Half of All Black Women Unhappy with Tyler Perry Casting Kim Kardashian

Tyler Perry made the interesting decision recently to cast Kim Kardashian in one of the leading roles for his upcoming film, “The Marriage Counselor.”

Since that time, Tyler has been back pedaling from an army of “sistuhs” who want to smack him upside the head. Some of them are offended by the fact that Kim K was chosen for the role over more seasoned and under-employed black actresses, whose list of qualifications are far superior to the empty and mindless resume of the “great” Kim Kardashian.

Perry is putting up all of the resources. He also casts more Black women than anyone else. Leave Tyler and Kim along. Of course Tyler can feature whomever he wants in his movies now that he has used black actresses and black patrons to build his empire to allegedly become the wealthiest movie maker in wollywood after a mere decade. Isn’t that what all nouveau riche blacks do? They want to move on and away from the black folks that helped them get the wealth so that they can shower it on those who wouldn’t spit their black ace way if they didn’t have money they can easily take from them. There would be less poverty in the black community if black folks started collaborating for survival and communal success versus using your own to get personal resources to then turn around and snub those that look like you, regardless of how much you don’t want to be who you are. A people disconnected from themselves are always looking out for the welfare of those who think of them as the joke that they are versus expending energy to defend your own women, children and communities. I’m not mad at TP for casting KimmyCakes, I’m mad at what seems to be a ‘turning point’ for him. He defends his choice by calling KimmyCakes a ‘role model.’ I still cannot believe he said that. Role Model? Sex Tapes, jumping from one man to another, parading her fake family in front of the cameras any chance she gets, desecrating the sanctity of marriage and putting a dollar sign on everyone she does? What has she done that TP thinks other kids should also do?
I’m also disappointed in TP. He obviously believes his own hype. Name one struggling writer/director/actor that TP pulled up from obscurity. You can’t because he hasn’t. It takes him putting her in a film to tick off Black women? I’ve been upset with the way he depicts married people in his films. It’s just about all negative and as someone who has been married for 17 years, I’d appreciate if he would do something positive. Anyone who has been married for any time will tell you that marriage has it’s ups and downs it’s hard to support his films when they are constantly reminding you of the negatives when you are obviously on a date with your spouse. It’s enough that in a bad economy that e are out spending 35 to 40 dollars to see the film….we don’t always want to be reminded of every negative aspect of our lives “everytime” we see a film of his and especially when he hasn’t spent 24 hours in a marriage to even know what married people go through. Who cares who Tyler Perry puts in a film ? It must have taken all day , or a visit to South Central to get enough Respondents to comment on this very important decision-lol.
Surely the criticism should not be about the acting quality , or lack thereof of this Kim Person the Media talks about every day for some unknown reason for Perry’s productions on Film or TV contain mostly B Actor’s and an occasional A Actor in some short ” window dressing ” role .
Quality in any measure cannot be used to judge Perry’s poorly written, terribly unfunny and simplistic stories about the most mundane aspects of Black Life ( you better watch out Madea is gonna get you for cheating ) I find it amazing that they could keep anybody’s interest for more than a minute or two .
So the interesting question to me is not about Kardashian , but how could so many Black People ( Dr. Watkins calling Perry’s audience broad was fiction of the highest degree ) like the simple and poorly done work of Tyler Perry ?

But the “role model” comments referring to Kim K. If TP really referred to her as a role model he has truly fell and bumped his head. I just don’t get it…Tyler Perry has the right to cast anybody he wants to in the role…regardless of race…gender or whatever….whenever I hear stories like this I really just don’t get it…if people are angry then why don’t U find out where they are having the auditions and go 4 it since U feel that U can do a better job instead of hatin on someone who got the role!

I think it’s ridiculous that people think Tyler Perry shouldn’t be versatile when casting actors for his films. I’m a black actress with a couple of feature films under my belt and I must admit, it is very challenging to land roles when so many projects specifically want the blonde-haired blue-eyed type. We have to be fair across the board. If there was a Director casting only white actors, we’d have a problem with it. We want them to be versatile, so why can’t we?

Did you say Roman Polanski? Don’t get me started on that pedophile! TP has a duty to his (financial) supporters as well! The part that BW are pissed about is when he referred to KimmyCakes as a role model. You don’t seem to get that. If he was searching for a true role model, choosing CakeGirl wasn’t it! How about Holly Peete, who tirelessly works to create awareness for autism? How about Pat Smith who along with her husband (Emmit) created a charity foundation (several in fact) for kids? How about Robin Roberts who can speak to her experience of being a breast cancer survivor as well as one of only a few black female journalists on TV? I could keep going: Queen Latifah, Serena /Venus Williams, Janet DuBois, Vanessa Williams, Vanessa L. Williams, Nia Long, Regina King?! Choosing KK was nothing more than a cheap attempt to create sensationalism around the movie. Not to mention that Brandy, who’s brother is the other half of that sex tape duo is also in the movie. Only one-trick ponies like TP sink low to bring the money in that way. You can cling to the “he can do whatever he wants,” and “it’s a business thing” if you want, but the largest audience for TP is black women, so insult them and you lose them and that revenue! How’s THAT for keeping it about business?!! How YOU doing?!

Dr. BW- Can’t you recognize flattery when you’re receiving it? Kim K. truly admires many attributes of both man and women of color, and frankly I’m flattered by this. She also seems to be someone who has no hatred for anyone….despite many of her foibles in life. I like her and if making millions is her ‘compensation’ for any shortcomings in her young life…then more power to her! I bet half of the black females you speak of most likely get angry, mad, and jealous of anything under the sun. Trust me…I know many of this type and there is nothing anyone can do to get the hatred out of them.

It’s SAD and PATHETIC that some people on this thread cannot enjoy a healthy exchange of opinion w/o getting ghetto, swearing and name calling. THIS is why black women get so much bad press from the media and from our own black men. You know who you are. My great-grandmother always told me that people with small minds use the kind of language you used with me. Instead of firing up the stank attitude and trying so hard to make me out to be ill-informed, why don’t you explore why you are so angry with a complete stranger? I’m a freelance journalist/writer, so hate mail comes with the territory and I expect it from the Repubs/Tea Party/Birthers/Racists, but why do I only get the get the nastiest, most cowardlly, over-the-top and uncalled-for replies when I’m on African-American sites? Even the crazy white folks don’t go that far. It says so much about us as a whole. You should be ashamed of yourself, but you’re probably too ignorant to know that. The 1st Amendment entitles everyone to Freedom of Speech. If you cannot handle that, and it’s obvious that you can’t, stay off the threads and only go where your level of intelligence can handle what’s being said. Respect is a large part of being an adult. We are free to agree or disagree. That is what my ancestors fought for and what my black sisters who work in the media still fight for everyday. You are a sad example of Freedom of Speech. To all the people upset about Tyler Perry’s decision need to understand he made a business decision which is his perogative, years ago he was not even in a position to make that choice. If you don’t like Kardashian don’t watch her show or go to the movie because afterall you pay to do both, it’s your choice. Rather than be mad about Perry casting Kim Kardashian, maybe all those ” 50% women who are angry” should focus their attention on changing other media outlets like the urban radio station producers/programmers and TV stations like BET that play and show us garbage everyday. I for one am tired of every song having a reference to drugs, sex and violence. When was the last time you heard a song on the radio that did not have to be edited for play first? Why do you think our children are so disrespectful to both men and women- they hear and see garbage everyday, WE have become so desensitized and used to it that now it’s so common. We need to be mad as hell about THAT!

There are more important issues for our community to be concerned about that Kim K in a movie. Example: We have a major election in less than one year- WE should be more concerned about getting our people hyped and engaged in THAT rather than the casting of a movie!

I really don’t get it. He didn’t hand over the store to her, he simply cast her in one of his films. This isn’t the first time a white has been cast in Tyler’s film or TV series. So what’s the big deal now? Everytime blacks don’t like something, they bring up slavery, racism, black self hate, etc. This probably has more to do with Kim K and black men/ women in general, than Tyler Perry. Otherwise, this is much to do about nothing.

People need to get a life and stop hating on this man because, for whatever reason, he chose to put this female in his film. She is not that good of an actor but I will see the film and continue to support Tyler in anything else that he is a part of. You can not satisfy everyone all the time.
