Political and entertainment journalist, Mo Kelly, poses an interesting question on his web show, The Mo’ Kelly Report:
If Black people can forgive R. Kelly, why all the outrage over Penn State coach, Jerry Sandusky?
If you check those same Black media outlets decrying the mistreatment of Black children in Pennsylvania, you will likely find write-ups celebrating the impending release of the forthcoming R. Kelly CD…Black Panties.
It’s ok to promote the alleged Black pedophile and his project Black Panties, while simultaneously assail[ing] Penn State and Jerry Sandusky?
Really?
Are we more willing to accept abusers who look like “us?”
In 2002, a video surfaced of “allegedly” Kelly engaging in sex with and urinating on an underage girl. The video was seen by thousands, and everyone claims that it is R.Kelly though he continues to deny it. After years of delay and legal maneuvering, Kelly was found not guilty of all 14 counts levied against him. In 2003 in Florida, Kelly was arrested again on child pornography charges, but charges were dropped because of insufficient reason for the search warrant that turned up the damning video. Rumors have continued to surface about his unhealthy—and illegal—attraction to underage girls. He married late R&B princess, Aaliyah Haughton, when she was just 15-years-old. Though both singers denied the allegations, Vibe magazine published the marriage license, proving that Aaliyah had lied and stated her age as eighteen. The marriage was invalid and quickly annulled.
Weigh in YBW Fam: Does R. Kelly get a pass, while Sandusky is viewed as the pedophile he is reported to be?
