Only “Proper Negroes” Criticize Tyler Perry’s Work? Reverend Al Sharpton Says ‘Regular Black Folk’ Don’t

We all have haters, but when your haters come from your own family or community their criticism can be more painful, but not necessarily your problem. Reverend Sharpton says that the fact that Tyler Perry has employed more black actors through his work speaks louder than what critics have to say. And if those critics are black folks then perhaps they are not ‘keeping it real.’

“Somebody said to me about the ‘House of Payne,’ ‘Why do you have fat black people on television?’ Because there are fat black people in the world. It’s not a stereotype. This is who we are, we need to stop running from our parents and our grandparents and our uncles, we need to stop running from them and embrace them,” Tyler Perry said during the 2011 Triumph Awards.

Republicans usually are selfish, angry and power hungry people. They do not enter politics to serve people, rather they are there to get power to enable them exploit the weaker. Republicans are also racists. Just see how they are treating Cain. Cain is in excellent standing with ordinary GOP voters. But leaders in Republican and right wing media are fighting to ensure he does not get the nomination. Unfortunately Cain is playing ignorance he is not discriminated by his own party for his race. That’s why I have asked Cain to dump GOP, join the Democratic Party and campaign for re-election of President Obama.

Really People? with everything going on in this world, people are worried about Tyler Perry & his multi million $$ movie’s? Really? well from what i can see, Tyler Perry is doing just fine for himself, making that paper & giving back to the community! I wish i could work for him! I would be there bright & early with bells on! lol stop hating on the man & respect what he has done for all of us! God Bless him! I wish him all the luck in the world! Because he keeps it REAL!!!

Cain is a smart man he knew exactly what he was getting into and he knew that the Republican Party’s racism of his own people have been center stage for years. Yet he chose to enter the world of Greed, however, if he is indeed as Racist against his own community as he gladly sends out his smoke signals, that you simply cannot feel sorry for Cain.

In any event to Disprage your own Black community for any reason, whether you actually believe what you are saying adversly about your own community or whether you are in it for Greed playing to the very racists that continue to ignore and place their feet on the head of your community, either is shameful.

President Obama would really loose if Cain joined to campaign for him because that would mean our President give too many passes to those in his community who play the games that they surely know have attempted to completely hurt his own community for decades.

Let Cain stay where he chose to be with the same people who really don’t like him, or respect him, they are suing him for play time because he’s black in the era of a Black President.

Nobody’s opinion is more valid than anyone else’s of course ,but I do wonder if…

some people recognized what one can summize from it would they want to reconsider , or re-state their argument ?

For example quite a few people have written that if you don’t like Perry’s work that means you are jealous of his success . Really , so if you are Black you must appreciate Perry’s art because he is also Black, or because he has a lot of money ?

This is the same standard that many of us defend Rap Music with( well as long as the Brothers are generating some dollars for themselves who cares if they are promoting the worship of Gangsters , disrepect for women , keep a gun in your pocket and shoot your schoolmate if he or she has a disrepectful frown on their face , influencing our kids to think about sex as adolescents , and value bling bling, over the book thing ) . ” Don’t hate on them you jealous Black People “.

Even more folk have praised Perry because he has acquired great wealth apparently placing the attainment of money as the most important thing a human being can do . Far more worhty of admiration and praise than moral pursuits like devoting ones life to helping others . I guess this is why when Mother Theresa died there was barely a blurb written on the back page about it , but when Princess Diana was killed it intruded on our daily lives for weeks like She had discovered Penicillin , or why recently the Media has treated the passing of Steve Jobs like he eradicated poverty .

Or why so many people worship Oprah like she has ended the tribal conflicts in Africa that prevent our Ancestor’s from uniting , instead of simply sitting on a set and talking to people something that maybe half a billion people , or more should be able to do if given the chance .

I know our Society has done away with quality, morals, respect, love, and other traditional values , so I guess we should ignore critical inspection of Perry’s Art because he is rich and he is Black and that is the only thing that matters .

I find it very troubling that many people like the Doctor suggest that Fame and Fortune comes with criticism that may not have any validity , but is simply a function of becoming a large target . Yes plant a tree in the forest and no one will notice , but park it on the corner of Broadway and Forty Second Street in Manhattan and a lot of people will carve their initials in it .

The second thing that many people do that clouds analysis is the fallacy that you cannot separate someones wealth from the inspection . Who says you have to consider Perry’s wealth in examining his talent , or lack of thereof ?

Obvious praise by Doctor Boise and thousands of well meaning folk heaped on Tyler and others simple because they are extraordinary rich ignores that history and current Civilization is filled with Wealthy people who earned it dishonestly ( Bernie Madoff ) , got it through the luck of birth ( Donald Trump ) , or simply have been at the right place at the right time . This homage is especially misplaced in Hollywood an Industry that is filled with Actors made rich simply by being given a chance as others more infinitely more talented will not get past their day job .

So one should separate they hype, and boo boo kissing, and community admiration when looking at Perry’s work and look at it for what it is. He is a Producer who has an audience that loves his work enough to make money for himself and others . That does not mean that non-fans do not find his work totally unappealing and simplistic . Sharpton actually hit on a question I was asking recently myself……….. does Perry’s work appeal more to less educated and perhaps lower income Blacks ?

For me a few minutes of watching his TV shows found them to be poorly written, not funny , and filled with a cast of B Actors . I have not been able to watch any of his movies for more than a few minutes and found them to be similar and based on the simplest sliver of Black Life that everyone is so aware of I wonder how people could find the story lines interesting ( You cheated on your Wife , so watch out Madea is gonna get you ) .

The Madea character is so poorly done that it looks more like a parody of a drag queen as opposed to one of a woman .

Perry could be the Richest Man in Hollywood History that does not mean his work is not garbage . Compared to him Spike Lee is the most talented Film Maker in History .

Just because Perry is successful and black does not mean I support his shows and movies. The shows are poorly written and play off the stereotypes of black people. The movies are horrible as well and Perry does not keep it real, he keeps it dumb.

the only real issue with tyler perry is that of a larger problem than him. it’s hollywoods willingness to only work with a few black talents. could perry, diddy, simmons and jay z form a large and succesful entertainment industry if they were to band together? absolutley. could perry make more intelligent product, maybe not. maybe his product is as intelligent as he can get. is perry anymore misogynistic than his faith? personally, no. even jimmy carter and the “council of elders” or whatever agree. i can say his work is far more intelligent than the white shows like “according to jim” or “two and a half men”, i could write an endless list of shows his are better than. also “Meet the Browns” is one of the only shows since “rossane” that features a strong figure head that is an overweight woman. for someone like my mom(an overwight avangelistic mexican), the show is eye opening compared to the likes of everything else on mainstream t.v.. Black faces are simply very rare in to see in media which makes it more difficult for people in majority white communities to feel a brotherhood that they should feel when they encounter people with dark skin like us. So in that way his show does help (as oppossed to the MANY ways it hurts). I beg everyone to question the utter “buffoonery” of mainstream media before focusing on perry in a singular sense. Basically, it all SUCKS. and it’s all heartbreaking hearing and seeing people being taught what rich bastards consider to be a higher quality of living.
