Civil Rights activist and scholar Cornel West won’t be charged after he and 18 others were arrested on the steps of the Supreme Court this week. They were arrested on Sunday in the “Stop the Machine” protests against corporate influence in politics.
West had been charged with holding signs on the grounds of the Supreme Court, which is illegal.
Professor West has been both vocal and active lately, fighting against growing poverty throughout the United States. He has joined the protests to occupy Wall Street, and also continued his fight against corruption and mass incarceration. Critics say that West’s protests are driven out of a selfish desire to undermine the presidency of Barack Obama. Others are saying that West’s work is consistent with what he’s been doing for the past 20 years.
