Troy Davis Put to Rest: Images from His Funeral

Troy Davis was put to rest on Saturday, October 1. His funeral was a sad day for millions who felt that he was unjustly executed for a murder that he likely did not commit. The Your Black World Coalition, along with Dr. Boyce Watkins and Rev. Jesse Jackson, campaigned on behalf of Davis in conjunction with millions around the world who felt that Davis should have been kept alive.

Here are some images from the funeral below. We would like to say RIP to Troy and we wish his family all the best. Also, the struggle for justice is not over, and our new campaign to liberate Rodney K. Stanberry gives us another opportunity to fight on behalf of another black man who we truly believe to be innocent of his crimes.

I’m sickened to live in a country that still believes it is acceptable for the government to murder its own citizens. I hope Troy Davis’s family is able to find peace somehow.

My prayers are with this family. I hope that God will comfort them. Perhaps now people who have young men who are out there getting into trouble totally out of control; these parents can then remind them of Troy Davis and hopefully they will think twice and turn their life around. There are too many black men in prison and on death row now just like this man was. Because the crime element in this country is so great, people are just fed up and this is what mostly helped get Troy Davis executed. People just couldn’t believe that just maybe he didn’t commit this crime. What a damn shame, damn shame.

Rest in peace my brother. we as a people really need to unite as a people but that can only happen thru Islam all of these so call punk A## black leaders want to march and all that nonsense hell i can walk on my own we need to form our own government like the honorable Elijah Muhammad stated that we should we need to separate from this devil and govern our own, we dont need them to police our neighborhoods, its no justice and there will never be justice for the black man until we wake up as a people and take back ours.

Vic, are you a cop? if you are, then just like people who join the military you knew the job would be dangerous when you took it, anything could happen, even giving your life. With that said, why should a police officer’s life be more valuable than anyone elses? 8 out of the 9 witnesses recanted their testimomey, and the jury said that if they had the evidence that they now have they would not have convicted him, so why would you make such a stupid remark?

He’s not a cop killer ignoramus. Judges, former FBI agents, ex-presidents and the Pope all believed he was innocent. Let’s not even discuss the evidence that pointed away from him to someone else. Since when do you execute someone on circumstantial evidence? I’m tired of that dumb ass phrase – ‘cop killer’! I believe their lives are not as important as anyone else. Hell, most of them should be in jail for the abuse they inflict on others.

I don’t believe in killing…nor do I believe in death penalties…..but it mos def bothers me when theres doubt involved. In my heart, I truly feel Troy was innocent…and fuck tha cops fam for thinking it was “justice being served” they can all suck a fat one and choke on it for all I care….real talk.
