The critics are surely going to come after Floyd Mayweather after seeing his recent win against Victor Ortiz. Although Mayweather officially won the fight with a knock out, the final punch came at a time that some would consider to be inappropriate. The crowd booed when Mayweather won the fight, claiming that he won it on a dirty punch.
“He got hit me with a dirty shot, and it’s protect yourself at all times,” Mayweather said. “He done something dirty…..I was victorious…if he wants a rematch, he can get a rematch.”
While the fight has earned millions for Mayweather’s bank account, it is going to do untold damage to his reputation. Mayweather attempted to avoid questions from commentator Larry Merchant about what happened in the fight. In spite of the boos from the crowd, Mayweather continued to stick to his point. He seemed to feel that Ortiz’s dirty head butt right before Mayweather’s punch justified his actions.
“HBO needs to fire you, because you don’t know shit about boxing!” Mayweather yelled into the face of Merchant after the fight.
We get the feeling that this one isn’t over.
