No NFL Team Wants Tiki Barber, and Apparently, He’s Devastated

tiki barber can't find a team that will take himYour Black World reports

Peter King from Sports Illustrated has reported that 36-year old Tiki Barber, who’d begun working for The Today Show after leaving the NFL, wasn’t getting a sniff from any of the teams in the league.  Apparently, the teams seem to feel that Barber can’t recapture his prior glory from just a few years ago, when he led all backs in the league in rushing yards from scrimmage at the ages of 29, 30 and 31.

Barber was pushed to return to football after losing his position with The Today Show.  The job loss was due to a Barber’s affair with a 23-year old intern while his wife was pregnant.  The publicity brought on from the relationship led to The Today Show ending his contract.  Since that time, Barber has been depressed and financially-devastated, leading him to try his hand at the NFL.

According to King:

Miami worked him out and chose to not sign him. The Giants released him and never would have brought him back because of bridges burned. And don’t get me wrong — I’m not saying this is some sort of outrage.

I tried to reach Barber on Sunday, but he wasn’t talking. I hear he’s devastated that no team gave him a chance. You might wonder if teams would bring him in after the first game of the season, so his contract wouldn’t be guaranteed, and that could still happen. But with no team calling Lepselter with even a hint of interest, it’s more likely teams would start with backs who’ve been in some football competition this summer.

Lepselter told me Sunday: “We are flabbergasted that Tiki has not had an opportunity with any team, especially when rosters were at 90 players this year. I certainly thought some team would be intrigued to see what he had left in the tank.”

Sounds like he is just continuing to reap the bitter fruit of his arrogance.  He left the Giants in a huff stating that the team would crumble without him.  The Giants won the Superbowl the very next year.  He left his marriage for another woman while his wife was pregnant.  His affair cost him his job at NBC.  Now he’s groveling at the feet of the NFL hoping to be the second or third string back on a team and no one is interested.  It is only a matter of time before his 23-year old side piece leaves him.  Pride truly does go before a fall.  SMH.

I’m shock that no one wants an old back stabber, adulterer, child abanding, locker room cancer, arrogant, insubordinate, Coach hating, Benidict Arnold to his fellow employees,  and a misanthrope.

    I am truly shocked.

      Say that again!!   LOL

Hey, yall don’t damned the brotha? He’s still part of us! My advice to him is to go play for the UFL. I know that football organization is hiring, even though they have 5 teams.

Um, why is it that whenever a black man gets in trouble, we have to rally behind him? Forget that!

He made his bed on his own and he will lie in it ON HIS OWN

Actually, this “brotha” went out of his way several times to publicly say that he wasn’t like us.

Tiki’s wife Ginny (he’s still married)whom I had the pleasure of meeting & I have talked to on several occasions in the past. Ginny is a beautiful woman inside & out, who he dated since U of VA days. (my friend from college is her parents neighbors).

Tiki was very arrognant, very showy, but friendly when I met him, so as a person who sits back & likes to observe, knew he wasn’t comfortable in his own skin and not really down to earth when it comes to his race (just my opinion). His twin brother is married to an Asian woman as well, but he seems to be the opposite of Tiki, when it comes to running his mouth.

In his mind, Tiki has transcended those like you, Just-Thinking.  And if he ever regains his bearings and continue his hunt for snow whites to prove he’s ‘human’ he won’t be thinking about anything that concerns Black folks…believe that!  I recall some veiled comments Tiki’s wife was obviously hurling at Black women and often wonder how she must feel right about now.

Karma.  That’s all I have to say about that.

  • Boo

DON’T beat a dog when he/she is down!  We all make bad decisions from time to time!!

Next to go is his relationship with snow white.  I guess he’s thinking if that piece of AZZ  was worth it.

Snow whites don’t stick around when black men are broke, busted and disgusted.  We all know the parents of snow  whites don’t have anything to do with black men unless they are making $ i.e., celebrity , or athlete.  Sad but true.”You Reap What You Sow”. Barber . Go ask snow white family for some $.

    is this idiot serious? it aint nothing but karma following his every move;
should have not left his first wife for the next lady. and another thing, he’s
broke, which is why he’s trying to get back on someone’s team. smdh at this
    mess.

Wonder if this gives him an idea of what his wife may have felt when he dismissed her for that thing that was expecting to have hit pay dirt and now if she does not land an issue in take your clothes off honey, they will have to probably be in the soup line. Let’s see, how long this lasts. Maybe they can move in with her parents, or perhaps they should return to school for a carreer in character!
It would be a good idea to ask wife for forgiveness and the youngster to also ask for forgiveness and hopefully not do this thing again. Sexual desires seem to be thorns in the side leading to sexual improprieties for many when all the person has to do is a reality check and consider would someone of good character do this thing or even project it out five years.

I cannot exactly feel sorry for Barber.  Anytime you leave or wife, especially when’s she pregnant, for a 23 year old girl toy, it is easy to see you’re asking for trouble.  This is similar to O.J. Simpson leaving his wife the woman half his age in Nicole Brown and we saw how that story ended.  As the Bible says, you reap what you sow.

I believe in second chances..BUT you just cannot cheat on a pregnant wife…you have to wait your turn at redemption and forgiveness..You got to ride this out my man…

  • Meccanaje

Karma is a mother…I am so glad his monkey breathe got what he deserve…to cheat on your wife while pregnant then disrespect your entire team was surely going to have some type of ramifications. I hope cheaters learn from this lesson.

  • Keith

I don’t feel sorry to Tiki at all. What he did to his wife was Wrong Wrong Wrong. Karma is a bytch isn’t it? Oh Tiki. Welcome to the world of people who struggle everyday. When you did have your money, did you reinvest in the black community. Did you try to build a business and hire blacks like Magic Johnson. NO. You partied and give the White Girl the glory of being on your arms. You cheated on your beautiful wife who was pregnant of all things. You thought your good looks will get you buy. Well you thought wrong. Perhaps this experience will humble you ungrateful a$$. Perhaps???

  • Cautious

Tiki Woods?  This pains me.  Its crazy, we black men always find a way to screw it up.  The media hunts for b/m celebrities and looks hard to find some dirt on them.  You can’t give them anything fellas, they will destroy you a whole lot quicker than they built you up.  Also, you fellas would be wise to learn from Othello.

Can you really be dismissed from your job because of your personal life that broke no laws? I bring this up for an answer my second question. Why is Dateline NBC’s Chris Hanson still there despite his extramarital affairs brought to light a few months ago?
Don’t know Tiki and could care less about him BUT there is that double standard here that, I believe, brings up a much bigger issue.

Chris Hansen wasn’t having an affair with a colleague.  Tiki was.  Many companies have anti-fraternization rules.

  • BC

I appreciate your response Gimmeabreak 78. I’ve worked for companies with those ‘anti-fraternization’ rules and they’re rarely used if at all. This situation was so screwed up though that it probably turned employer-fans against Barber. If he was patient and handled his business/timing right, it wouldn’t come to this.
