William D. Jackson: The Importance of Black Male Teachers

black men, african american men, black male teachers, black teachersby William D. Jackson, Thyblackman.com

Dr. William Cosby, (Bill Cosby) stated, “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.”

As a third generation teacher I wanted to encourage, inspire, empower, bless and provide confidence to my brother educators.

Education as a whole needs more certified male teachers to be positive role models, but the need for Black Males in education is important. This is not to say other cultures are not effective educators, but from my personal  experiences, the influences of Black male teachers in my life; the cultural awareness, relevance to life experiences and need to see a face that is my color was important to me and others growing up in an urban setting.

It provided a sense of stability, encouraged self worth and even though my father was not a part of my life other men stepped up and took upon the roles as father, mentor and educator. Even though all my friends had fathers in their homes and I did not I’m as successful as them because of the influence and support of other Black males.

Damn! Where are the comments on this issue?
Even though there are very good young white girl teachers, young blacks do not respect them, they see them as weak and don’t forget race. Race plays an important part in the overall picture of black education and gender also plays a very large role.

There is much wrong within urban communities and other black communities too, but mostly urban communities.  It starts with alloying children to rear children. Children getting on welfare with no education themselves. Just living without any morals, rhyme or reason.

Lets look at it and stop defending our sad state of affairs in our communities.

Allowing children to move out of their homes and getting on welfare is one the biggest mistakes our representatives has made.

Yes those who get pregnant need help and support, but not with a dollar, that is not the way to give children money to have more babies without any education or knowledge of how to live. Without any moral compass. With no goals or direction.

Ooops sorry for getting off the subject.

Of course because of how we look at females in the black community we need more male teachers because young black males will listen to black males before females.

When are the tough choices and real education going to begin in our black communities?

How can blacks who do not know anything about urban thought going to help those who see things in their own light. Black must get into the trenches to understand what is lacking in our communities and then address these problems.

Education is one of those problems and lack of black male teachers is another problem.

Our need in this department is great. Black male educators are extremely important and therefore more of them need to be cultivated. Yes, cultivated. Many of our people aren’t interested in becoming teachers for the same reasons many others aren’t. The lack of adequate pay. Nonetheless, this along with so many other issues requires the acknowledgement of the fact that we cannot link our personal goals to the goals of our nation. If the nation is to succeed it will be because we sacrificed a personal need for the needs of our nation. This concept is what makes a revolution and more importantly, one that ensure’s the revolution will meet it’s objectives. INTERGRATION – Is at the heart of many of our problems because we’re now (on paper) a part of a society that doesn’t see our needs as a priority nor do they intend to sacrifice their own needs as a consequence of trying to assist us with meeting our needs. This is reality, and for the most part a logical disposition by those outside of our nation. Each nation has decided to take care of their own but we continue to buy into the theory that intergrating will amount to a better future. I can almost guarantee that we had more black male teachers when we were segregated. Soething to think about !!!!!!!!!. We can discuss this issue and several others until we’re blue in the face. The bottom line is that even if we find a solution it would be hindered by the fact that we’re not in a position to implement (federally or locally) the necessary measures to correct the rot cause of many of our problems. For instance, we know that balck men are being locked up at an astounding rate but we can’t do anything about it because we’re too disconnected from the platforms (federal gov) that would be able to mandate change. We need a social movement to first establish the soviernty of our people of our own land. Then we can begin the hard task of correcting the wrongs that we’ve faced. This country belongs to white amerikkka and as in anyone’s house their rules apply. i can’t dictate how you run your house because it’s your house. Same principle applies here. We need a house to run our own business as we see fit. Take notice of what they call the place we’re their presidents reside. They call it the “White house”. that means that the white man decides what happens in this house. We need a black house. i could go on but i’ll leave it there for now.
