Woman Beaten with Baseball Bat by Mother of Hit-and-Run Victim

by Ayvaunn Penn, Your Black World

Forget an eye for an eye. This story goes more like this: “If you run over my relative, I am going to beat you with a baseball bat until you’re nearly dead.” Fifty-two-year-old Gilda Diane Lott, the suspect of a hit-and-run case that took place on July 3rd, was beaten with a baseball bat by the mother of one of the victims. According to the Riverfront Times, “The Belleville News-Democrat (BND) reports that [Lott] recently left jail and was promptly beaten with a baseball bat by the mother of a victim of the hit-and-run in question.”

According to reports, Lott confessed to running over a group of four individuals deliberately, claiming that she committed her actions out of self defense. She said she felt her safety was endangered after she and the four victims had a dispute. Apparently, the time Lott spent behind bars was not enough to satisfy the mother of one of the hit-and-run victims. The Riverfront Times reports:

“According to the BND, Lott was walking to a friend’s house on North 48th Street when the mother of the victim spotted her. After a brief exchange, the victim’s mother returned with a baseball bat and started swinging…[Lott] required 182 staples to be put into her head. She also suffered a broken thumb, fractured eye socket, broken hand and bruises.”

It is not surprising that Lott’s family wants the woman who beat her so severly to be charged with attempted murder. Lott’s daughter states, “If they (police) hadn’t stopped her, I believe my mother would be dead.” Currently, no charges have been filed against the unnamed mother who beat Lott. The Riverfront Times also reports that “the severity of the injuries sustained by the hit-and-run victims is also not clear.”

This is a complete outrage. The violence needs to stop. Black-on-black violence will get us no where in this world.
