Pittsburgh Steelers receiver Hines Ward was arrested early Saturday morning on charges of driving while under the influence of alcohol. Ward was later released on $1,300 bond. He was booked at 3:41 am and arrested in DeKaulb County.
The 35-year old Ward has had a successful NFL career, making it to the Pro Bowl on four separate occasions. He is also the winner of “Dancing with the Stars.” But his latest setback may damage his reputation, which had been stellar up until this point, and it does nothing good for the Pittsburgh Steelers organization.
How the NFL will respond to Ward is up for debate, since the league is now in the middle of a lockout. This is the third year in a row that the Steelers have had an off-the-field incident during the off season. Quarterback Ben Roethlisberger was accused of sexual assault in both 2009 and 2010. With both Ward and Roethlisberger being team leaders, the organization will have to work overtime to control the damage.
