A new Gallup Poll has shown that African Americans are the most religious group of people in the country. The survey found that 53 percent of black Americans were found to be “very religious,” and 33 percent said that they were “moderately religious.” Only 39 percent of whites said that they were very religious, and 26 percent said that they were moderately so.
Roughly 13 percent of African Americans said that they were non-religious, with 34 percent of whites saying the same thing.
Latinos were second to African Americans in the religious category. Over 45 percent of Latinos said that they were very religious, and 33 percent were moderately so. Asians were the least religious, with 39 percent of them saying that they were nonreligious. Another 29 percent of Asians were defined as being very religious.
The three measures of religious commitment were defined by a series of questions asking respondents how often they go to church and how important religion is to them. They polled 145,618 adults over the age of 18 in 50 different states.
