Sam Jones, an actor for the shows E.R. and Smallville, is preparing to head to prison for as long as 70 months after being caught in a conspiracy to sell over 10,000 pills of Oxycodone. His reasoning for selling the drugs is interesting. Jones claims that he sold the drugs to help a childhood friend, Tom Cataloni. Tom allegedly told Jones that he owed $90,000 to a Mexican drug cartel and that he needed Sam’s help. Sam claims that he got involved to protect his friend, only to find out later that the story was false. It was all a setup by the DEA.
Some have argued that perhaps Jones should have considered going to the DEA to get protection for his friend, rather than becoming a drug dealer himself. There is also the question of why the DEA was trying to hook Jones in the first place. Most regular people don’t find themselves to be the target of a DEA investigation.
