The Delta Sigma Theta sorority of Toledo has started a program called Empowering Males to Build Opportunities for Developing Independence. Last Saturday, they held their kick-off celebration at Mount Pilgrim Baptist Church located on 1401 Hoag. Over twenty young black males ranging from 5th to 8th grade were in attendance from the local elementary and middle schools.
According to The Toledo Journal, this program was created by this sorority for the purpose of alleviating the plight of the black male and “impacting the mind, body, and spirit of black males of Toledo.” Other Toledo organizations are offering their support and participation in the effort as well. These include: Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Huntington Bank, and United Way of Greater Toledo African American Initiative and Mercy.
