Cornel West Says Politicians Must Stand Up for Poor, Black, Brown (Video)

In this interview on the Ed Show, Professor Cornel West continues his campaign to get politicians to acknowledge the plight of the poor, working class and minorities. West has been in the middle of a back-and-forth with President Barack Obama, as members of the Obama Administration have worked to slow the professor’s critique of the administration. The conversation has led to a divide in the black community, where some feel that President Obama has done a good job, while others believe that the administration has neglected to address issues that are critical to the black community.

Dr. West is a good man. There is no if, ands, or buts about it. Generally people of his stature are going to be attacked and misunderstood by those who are always ready to take the opposite side of the spectrum. There are those who will not understand until something hits them squarely on the head. Some of us are constantly seeking awareness and understanding while others are ready to accept what they want to hear, and believe what they are conditioned to believe.
Dr. West is constantly out there fighting the good fight and speaking for those who have no voice to those who seem to have no ears. The fact that these obviously critical levels must be constantly addressed speaks volumes about where our society is today.

What makes people stay so blinded, and uninformed? What keeps people accusing the poor and weak for their woes when it is so obvious that the wealthy and elite who are stationed in the loftiest positions are the cause? The ignorant continue to be their (The ultra-wealthy and Elite) staunchest support apparatus. For common people to support wealthy people as our political force is a practice in futility and the repetition of it decade after decade is the definition of lunacy.

Dr. West is definitely good at what he does and he needs more support. However, I. Must say this. Why should we expect the politicians to help us (African-Americans, Browns, etc.) when often times do not help one another. My mother and a close friend of hers since childhood are constantly taking about the black ppeople they know that are success and comparing them with those that are not. Here is an example, my mother’s friend has two daughter’s and both of their husbands have master’s degree’s. One has an executive position in a hospital and the other was laid-off about two years ago and is having a hard time finding a job. My mother and her friend are always comparing the two of them saying that the employed husband is more ambitious that then unemployed husband. Apparently, there is also talk amongs their family members.

I always ask my mother why won’t the employed husband help his unemployed brother-in-law (that is his brother-in-law. I have to think about these things, as I have no siblings and I have a very small family) get a job where he is working or via his network of people. Of course, we have to end the conversation at that point because she can never give me an answer. We people of color cannot afford to sit back and wait for the politicians (that includes Obama) to do the right thing.
