Nyshia Taylor, Your Black World reports.
An X-Ray machine in Chiapas, Mexico busted two trucks en route from Guatemala to the United States carrying a total of 513 migrant workers.
Each person reportedly paid $7,000 to cram into the back of the truck. Air holes were cut in the roof of the truck to help the workers breath, and they had to hold onto yellow ropes in order to stand up.
Up until two weeks ago the United States was experiencing a decline in illegal immigration into the country for this year. Within the last ten days four drop houses have been busted, four loaded vehicles have been pulled over, and nearly 100 arrests have been made.
Captain Fred Zumbo with the Department of Public Safety stated,”We’re seeing a lot of Central Americans, not just Guatemalans, but we are seeing a lot of Central Americans being encountered.” It is believed that the violence in Guatemala could be the reason for this perceived increase in illegal immigrants from Central America.
It is also noted that while the majority of these immigrants were from Central America, some were from India, Japan and China as well.
